We are dedicated to the welfare, protection and conservation of shark species worldwide. Our mission is to promote, raise awareness and advocate for the conservation of sharks through education and campaigning and our aim is to see the elimination of all forms of cruelty, abuse and exploitation of sharks and advocate for stronger legal protections for their species.

Our principles:

  • Promote the conservation of shark species and their habitats
  • Highlight the importance of intergenerational equity
  • Promote peace and non-violence. SCA does not target any specific culture.
  • Committed to using donations responsibly. SCA aims to ensure all supporter contributions go toward fulfilling our     mission to protect sharks and other native marine animals.”

Public education and outreach

Shark Conservation Australia attends festivals, market stalls, expos and film screenings as well as holding our own events. Raising awareness and educating the public about the plight of sharks and is integral to their cause. At these events we hand out flyers, invite people to follow our media platforms, get involved and help save sharks through educating others.

Legal advocacy and campaigns

Weak laws, or a lack of robust legal frameworks are one of the many ways that are letting sharks species down. Shark Conservation Australia runs legal campaigns to advocate for stronger legal protections for sharks. Our current primary and ongoing campaigns are 'Fin Free Sydney' and 'Fin Free NSW'. We have successfully worked with MP Mehreen Faruqi for a Bill entered into the NSW Upper House to outlaw the consumption, use and sale of any shark fin product or derivative.
